Dorothy is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) who specializes in drinking water quality. Her current aim is to use her expertise in environmental and mechanical engineering to address water poverty. She has her Master's Degree in Engineering Science (M.E.Sc.) from Western University and is currently a Ph.D. Candidate at York University. Her dissertation explores innovative solutions in Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems to address scaling and fouling. When these RO systems, which are widely used for water desalination, scale and foul, it significantly reduces their operational efficiency, affecting the amount of water produced, and the energy and cost required to operate and maintain the system. Specifically in her thesis, she observes scaling, the deposition of inorganic minerals like calcium carbonate on membrane surfaces, which can diminish system productivity by up to 90% in severe cases on RO membranes and anti-fouling coatings to mitigate these problems.
